Much of Ashery’s work is performance based and interactive. Raging Balls has been shown as a performance where audiences are asked to throw numbers of balls at the live performers. The performers are attempting to protect themselves with art magazines, and at a certain point throw the balls back at the audience and create a very tame riot. This interplay between audience and performers raises questions around the nature of rage, the limitations and thresholds of contracts between audiences and performers in performance works, herd-instincts and the childlike desire to throw balls.
