Red Gate Exhibits New Work from Tibet
BEIJING August 24, 2008—798 / Red Gate Gallery will present Tibetan Contemporary from October 11 – November 2, 2008. The show will feature the works of four Tibetan artists: Gade, Nortse, Tsering Nyandak and Tsewang Tashi. This will be the second Tibetan show at Red Gate following last summer’s highly successful Lhasa—New Art from Tibet. The show will be curated by Tally Beck.
The artists work in a wide variety of media ranging from stone pigment, fabric and paper to oil on canvas and digital photography. The artists address themes such as identity, Buddhism and the rapid urbanisation and modernisation of China. This year, some of the artwork will address the impact of the tragic earthquakes that have rocked Tibet and neighbouring provinces.
After last year’s show, some of the participating artists went on to exhibit with Plum Blossoms in Hong Kong and Rossi & Rossi in London. Rossi & Rossi also displayed some of the work at ShContemporary.
The show will open October 11 with a reception from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
