“泰戈尔有句诗：鸟儿飞过天空，不留下任何痕迹，但它仍欣喜，曾经飞过。很有意境，现实中人也是这样，在世上匆匆走过，什么也留不下。摄影的作用就是把这个痕迹留下来，让这个痕迹跟景物重叠和融合，以一种融入作者情感的可视方式表现出来。而不仅仅是一种简单纪录。
通常认为，摄影是一门瞬间的艺术。现在，摄影手法和观念更加多元，可以将好多个瞬间重叠在一起，造成时空的穿越，表达一种时间延续的概念，不仅仅是一个瞬间。利用瞬间的重叠造成时间的延续感，就像电影画面的切入切出。
单纯古老的东西太压抑了，单纯现代的东西又容易浅薄。把两者结合起来，在传统古老中注入新鲜的时代元素。用在拍摄北京这种既古老又和当代交融充满活力的城市很恰当。
好的作品要有时代感。”

1984华北油田钻井工人，开始自学摄影；
1995中央工艺美院摄影专业学习；
1997北京电影学院摄影学院图片摄影专业；
1998 组照〈通道〉五人摄影展 北京
1999.拍摄《故宫》组照，《中国摄影》2000.2发表；
2001 《自然与人》亚洲青年摄影展
《时尚家居》特约摄影师
现为：自由职业摄影师

Artist Statement by Xiaochun Ma
I enjoy very much one of the poems by the acclaimed Indian Poet Rabindranath Tagore: “Bird flies over the sky without leaving any trace; but it rejoices as it flies.” How apt and beautiful scenery it describes. In reality, people live in a hurry and take nothing with them when they pass away.
Photographs are NOT merely “recordings”. The function of photography is to record the traces of life, to mix and harmonize them with whatever surrounds life, and to portray the photographer’s personal touch and feelings by his own visual expression..
Traditionally, photography is regarded as an art of capturing instant images. Nowadays, there are more dimensions to photographic presentations and definitions. For example, one could put together different instant images to reflect the surpassing time and space, and to express the continuance of time, which is employed by the same techniques we see in movies.
To capture and show purely ancient and past images may be depressing, but to reflect only modern elements might be considered shallow. A city like Beijing is best approached by mixing the ancient with the modern, by injecting fresh modern elements into its rich traditions. Beijing is an ancient city with its modern vigor and energies.
Fine quality photography should keep pace with and speak for Time and Place.
