3 ARTISTS @ 798 @798三人展
In July 798 l Red Gate Gallery features a showpiece exhibition by three of the gallery’s foremost artists – Lu Peng, Wei Qingji and Li Gang.
3 artists @ 798 presents selected works from the artists’ recent exhibitions. Lu Peng, Wei Qingji and Li Gang are very different in their choice and interpretation of subjects and techniques, but as Chinese artists of a similar generation their work presents a microcosm of the diversity and commonality of practice existing in China today.
Figurative and symbolic elements link the artists’ works. Wei Qingji’s fictitious images are drawn from traditional and contemporary iconography, explored through ink and wash. Lu Peng’s surreal figures float entwined, in a dreamlike state, meticulously drafted with Chinese colour onto paper. Li Gang’s photographs of mysterious landscapes and vague interiors capture his intuitive, poetic view of the world and have spiritual associations.
3 artists @ 798 is a forerunner to the major Olympic Stars exhibition which will present new work by the stable of Red Gate Gallery artists in August this year over the period of the Olympic Games in Beijing.
