1st MAAPS International Printmaking Exhibition at Red Gate Gallery
Red Gate Gallery, Beijing (July 19- 31, 2007).
56 internationally recognized printmakers from six countries, including over 20 from Canada, are participating in the 1st MAAPS International Printmaking Exhibition scheduled to open at the Red Gate Gallery from July 19- 31, 2007.
This exhibition is presented by the Maritimes And Atlantic Printmakers Society (MAAPS) the other exhibiting nations include, China, Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Artists from these countries have exhibited a broad range of contemporary and traditional printmaking techniques and artistic sensibilities, in what is expected to become an important international biennial fine art event for Canada. It is the first international fine art exhibition organized from Atlantic Canada.
The international event is meant to celebrate the cultural diversity of visual art in participating nations and to provide viewers with the opportunity to experience work by some of the finest printmakers in the world today. Prints for the show were selected by jury or peer process in each of the countries.
The exhibition does not have a theme other than what appears to be a celebration of technical, artistic and cultural diversity. Since this is a deliberate exhibition design feature it must surely be a kind of survey. Indeed, a wonderful survey of international print works from six of the leading printmaking nations, and most certainly a gathering of prints the quality of which have never before been exhibited in Nova Scotia.
Most notable amongst the exhibitors are, Sean Caulfield and Otis Tamasauskas (Canada), Wu Changjiang and Jianfei Kang (China), Keisei Kobayashi and Seiko Kawachi (Japan), Kim, Seung-Yeon and Um, Jeong Ho (Korea), Stephen Mumberton and Rebecca Salter (U. K.), David Mohallatee and Andrew Decaen (USA).
