天普大学是全美规模第28大的公立大学，学生约有34000多人，师资约有3100多人。该校最知名的教学领域为business、health sciences、music、law、education、media。该校主校区因位于费城治安较差的北区，所以校区安全管理有特别加强。艺术学院「泰勒」是位于费城的Elkins Park镇上，院区是由Stella Elkins Tyler在1930年代捐赠的，但据校方消息指出，2009年因缺乏停车地，可能会将此学院迁至主校区。天普大学电影制作系以记录片制作为传统，也有很多剧情片课程，有很多记录片创作者，如李道明，郭珍弟，李秀香皆毕业于此校
