[Lecture] How to Collect Internatinal Contemporary Art

Lecturers: Ms. Mary Dinaburg, Mr. Howard Rutkowski, Mr. Zhao Li

Time: 3pm, 5th Sep 2010

Venue: Room A1-1, B1F, 22rt International Art Plaza, Today Art Museum

Ms. Mary Dinaburg, Mr. Howard Rutkowski and Mr. Zhao Li will make lectures at Today Art Museum, at 3pm, 5th Sep 2010.

The lectures will focus on how to collect internatinal contemporary art. As background information, speakers will introduce the international market, about the key players such as galleries, art fairs, and auction houses, private art dealers and consultant, also their different roles. On the other part, the three veterans will talk about collectors and artists, and how to collect the right artworks worldwidely. We hope these lectures will give the audience an overview of collection via global and local visions.

Mary Dinaburg is a graduate of Pratt Institute with a MFA in painting. She has also taught at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and at the Pratt Institute. During the 1980s she served as director of the Jack Shainman Gallery. With the founding of Dinaburg Arts, Mary expanded her involvement with acquisitions and de-accessions for private clients, while continuing to work directly with emerging and established artists for exhibition and sale. Her client includes Saks Fifth Avenue, Hermès, Firmenich, Capstone Group, Clifford Chance etc. She's also teaching at the graduate level at New York University, Department of Art and Art Professions.

Howard Rutkowski studied art history at Tufts University and New York University's Institute of Fine Art, after graduation he joined Sotheby's New York in 1979. A thirteen-year career at Sotheby's culminated in his appointment as Managing Director of Sotheby's Korea. In 1999, he was appointed head of Impressionist and Modern Art at Phillips, New York, as well as worldwide head of fine arts. In 2002, Howard joined Bonhams London as Director of Modern & Contemporary Art. In 2006 Howard Rutkowski joined with Mary Dinaburg to form Fortune Cookie Projects.

Zhao Li was born in 1967, Wu Xi, Jiangsu province. In 1989, he graduated from Art History Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts, then he stayed and taught in the college. In 1998 he received the doctor degree. He was deputy director of Art History Department of CAFA, vice president of Humanities and Arts college of CAFA. Currently he is a professor, supervisor of Master students, art director of Art Beijing, director of Art Value magazine, dean of AMRC, executive officer of CCAD, deputy secretary general of Wu Zuoren International Fine Art Fundation. His majors are art history, cultural heritage protection and development, art management and promotion etc.
